intro | As usual, we are adding data to the techtab first as information is acquired. This species is another of the group of "ringed ringless amanitas" that are presently being discovered in the southeastern U.S. |
odor/taste | Neither odor nor taste has yet been recorded. |
discussion |
At first, from above, this mushroom seems to be
rather like
Amanita
texasorora—because of the fragmenting,
graying volval patches left on the cap. However,
the present species has a weakly structured, white
ring on the stem.
This structure can, at least sometimes, break up so that
its lower part falls away and slides down the stem
until it catches on the stem's surface. This species has been called A. sp-MO07 and A. pseudoinsinuans on this site. This species was also collected in Missouri under ?? and then in Louisiana where it has been found with Wateroak (Quercus nigra). It's range has been extended to the Chesapeake Bay and Potomac River regions of Maryland by a group of collections made under Pin Oak (Q. palustris).—R. E. Tulloss, S. D. Russell, L. Wiedenfeld, and R. Warner |

intro |
The following text may make multiple use of each data field. The field may contain magenta text presenting data from a type study and/or revision of other original material cited in the protolog of the present taxon. Macroscopic descriptions in magenta are a combination of data from the protolog and additional observations made on the exiccata during revision of the cited original material. The same field may also contain black text, which is data from a revision of the present taxon (including non-type material and/or material not cited in the protolog). Paragraphs of black text will be labeled if further subdivision of this text is appropriate. Olive text indicates a specimen that has not been thoroughly examined (for example, for microscopic details) and marks other places in the text where data is missing or uncertain. The following material is based on collectors' notes and photographs, molecular research of S. D. Russell, Dr. L. V. Kudzma and other original research of R. E. Tulloss.

discussion |
At first, from above, this species seems to be a
specimen something akin to
Amanita rhacopus.
However, the present species has a weakly structured, white
partial veil.
This structure can, at least sometimes, break up so that
its lower part can fall away and slide down the stipe
until it catches on the stipe surface. Having five collections from a single site, in the present case, allows us to have a reasonable, initial estimate for the number and location of probable SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms) in genes we can successfully derive repeatedly. In this case we have five copies of the nrLSU gene for this organism, all beginning with the first character of the 5'-motif. The five initial segments of are very similar in length—they range from 1443 to 1476 characters long. The differences between the sequences that we have observed and the positions at which the differences occur are the following: Each entry in this table provides a character position in the aligned set of sequences and the characters (including ambiguities) recorded at that position. Character 1 is the initial (leftmost) character of the 5' motif of nrLSU. In the present case, the motif is that characteristic of the provisional subsection Penetratrices—TCTGACCTCAAATCA.
