The following material is based on one typescript
version of an unpublished Ms. of A. H. Smith, on
annotations of A. H. Smith collections designated
in the typescript, and on observations of the
material by R. E. Tulloss.
50 - 100 mm wide, entirely "Drab" to "Light Drab",
tin-colored when dry, oval to obtuse in buttons,
planar to slightly umbonate in age, surface
viscid at first and soon dry; context white,
thin, fragile; margin pectinate-striate
(0.3 - 0.35R), nonappendiculate; universal
veil usually as scattered discrete warts,
pallid to clay color (dingy ochraceous).
approximate, rather close, white, sometimes
developing light "Vinaceous Fawn" tint, with edges
pallid at first and soon marginate (then with edges pale to
darker "Drab"), not discoloring when bruised;
lamellulae not described.
90 - 160 × 10 - 25 mm,
??, cylindric or
narrowing upward, with appressed gray fibrils
originally uniformly distributed, breaking up into
zones or patches; context
exannulate; universal veil as
persistent cup around stipe base and/or breaking into
warts or patches, pigmented and discoloring as on
per A. H. Smith: [-/-/-] 10 - 15 × 9 - 12 μm,
(est. Q = 1.10 - 1.25; est. Q' = 1.19), smooth,
inamyloid, subglobose to broadly ellipsoid; white
Scattered. Under mixed
conifers or under Populus tremuloides.

Smith's manuscript description of A. stannea
appears on a page labeled "137" in one typescript
version. That Ms. page is the basic source for the
information on this tab at present. In MICH,
the two notecards containing field notes on specimens
from Colorado (Smith 85142, 85143, and 85846) contain
all of the information that appears in the typescript
with the exception of the mention of coniferous forest
habitat. Because of this, we have placed data
not on the cited cards in olive font.
A collection labeled A. stannea from a NAMA
foray is deposited in F. The collection
number is "NAMA 2010 - 075" and the F accession
number is C0075051F.
