December 19 2012:
Slow response time: For the last three days users of the site have experienced degraded response time for page loads. The problem has been traced to a site to which we interface for some services that are rarely if ever used by our visitors. We terminated the connections to that site, and our response time appears to be reasonable again.
December 17 2012:
Update techtab:
Amanita protecta.
December 15 2012:
Site usage: Today this site received its 43,000
th visit of 2012 and has now delivered to its users 22.38 GBytes of data in the present year.
New site feature: Yesterday, we posted a searchable, sortable, filterable version of our previously private DNA sequence collection catalog. We did this not because we thought the page is in finished condition. (There is more that we want to do with it.) We made it public because we have the expectation that the number of sequences available on the site is going to greatly increase in size over the coming months, and we wanted our users to be able to look through the data for their own purposes as soon as the data is available.
The page in question is
www.amanitaceae.org?Amanitaceae+genetic+sequence+collection.

October 29 2012: Hurricane Sandy
At this time, the Roosevelt, New Jersey team is expecting a direct hit from Hurricane Sandy today and tomorrow. We trust that this site will remain up during that time, but loss of power is to be expected in our region, which means that we may not be able to interact with the site or its users for several days—perhaps, as long as a week.

Personal news from RET: Early this morning (U.S. Eastern Daylight Time), a new RET grandson came into the world—Elias Tulloss. His parents were not aware of the tremendous significance of his name; therefore, I informed them that they had named the child for the father of Mycology and that their son already had an
Amanita named for him—
A. eliae. Of course, the latter, overwhelming fact (I'm sure) just made their day....
☺
