A confusion eliminated: The confusion regarding the section to

Amanita sp-N58 should be assigned is resolved. The
species appears to belong to stirps
Strobilaceovolvata in section
Vaginatae.
Although, the single collection of
A. sp-N49
(made on the same foray as the initial collection of
A. sp-N58 and
also assignable to the provisional series Penetratrices) did
not have a partial veil when collected, what we know of the two temporarily
coded organisms suggest that they are very similar and might be a single
taxon.

New taxa:
Amanita petroleum is a newly proposed taxon from
the Gulf Coast states of the U.S. with a very black cap that can be quite
viscid when wet. It can be mistaken for
A. anthracina in the
field. We are just beginning to learn about it, and a new page has been
established for it.
Amanita pseudoinsinuans is another, new "ringed
ringless amanita." Its cap is distinctly more brown than that of
insinuans.
Its volva appears to become gray and friable. These taxa were found by
Logan
Wiedenfeld and were distinguished molecularly using data from Stephen
Russell and colleagues at Purdue. The temporary code name
"
Amanita sp-MO02" is replaced by a provisional name
A.
ostendemihi."

been created for a lepidella species
originally collected by Lucy Albertella near her parent's former home in
the Blue Mountains of New South Wales. The DNA appears not to be
on record. We will explore whether or not the species has been
previously described.

was written by Greg Wright, who I have previously recognized for sending me
many amanitas during a period stretching from 30-40 years ago. The
Mycoflora lab and Stephen Russell have made possible the sequencing of nrLSU
DNA from the old material from the San Gabriel Mountains (CA).
